Why tourism matters
Tourism makes the Yukon stronger
More than visitors. More than an industry.
More than a visitor economy
Tourism is more than a visitor economy. It is a key contributor to the Yukon’s economy, supporting businesses, creating employment and helping communities thrive across the territory.
Every visitor who travels to the Yukon contributes to a much larger story. Tourism supports accommodations, restaurants, transportation providers, attractions, retailers, artists, guides, outfitters and cultural experiences. It creates opportunities for entrepreneurs, strengthens local supply chains and helps sustain services and experiences that residents enjoy year-round.
Tourism also creates meaningful employment opportunities at every stage of a career. From students entering the workforce and seasonal employees building experience to skilled professionals, business owners and year-round careers, the industry offers diverse pathways that support people, families and communities throughout the Yukon.
More than an industry, tourism is an investment in the Yukon’s future — helping build resilient communities, encourage private investment, celebrate Indigenous cultures, strengthen transportation networks and create vibrant places to live, work and visit.

ResourcesExternalLocal tourism impact
The Tourism Industry Association of Canada’s Local Tourism Impact Calculator estimates tourism’s contribution to the territory’s economy using a nationally consistent methodology, and allows comparisons with communities and regions across Canada.
Meetings, conferences and events
Business events attract delegates, exhibitors and speakers from across Canada and beyond, generating economic activity while showcasing the Yukon as a destination for meetings, conferences and events. These visitors support local accommodations, restaurants, transportation providers, venues and attractions, while often travelling outside meeting hours to experience the territory.
Working with the Yukon Convention Bureau, we measure the annual economic impact of the meetings, conferences and events sector using Destination International’s Event Impact Calculator (EIC) — the global standard used by more than 300 destination organizations worldwide to measure the net new economic activity generated by business events.
Economic impact for 2025–26: $12 million, through 64 meetings and conferences, welcoming more than 3,300 delegates from outside the territory.
Sport tourism
From local tournaments to national championships, sporting events bring athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and spectators to communities across the Yukon. These events generate visitor spending, support local businesses and leave lasting social and economic benefits for host communities.
In partnership with Sport Yukon, we use Destination International’s Event Impact Calculator (EIC) to measure the economic impact of major sporting events, providing internationally recognized, consistent and credible data on the value sport tourism brings to the Yukon.
