This policy explains what personal information the Tourism Industry Association of the Yukon collects through this website, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do with it.

Who we are

What we collect, and when
We only collect personal information when you give it to us. There is nothing on this site that quietly gathers information about you in the background.
If you sign up for our newsletter
We collect your name and email address so we can send you the Industry Update, our monthly newsletter. Signing up is the only thing that adds you to that list — asking us a question or applying to a programme does not. Every issue carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately.
If you send us a message
We use your name, email address and whatever you tell us to answer you, and we keep the correspondence so we can pick up the thread if you write again. That is all we use it for.
If you apply to a programme or fund
Applications ask for more than a general enquiry does, and what they ask for depends on the programme. We use that information to assess your application, to administer the programme, and to report to the funder — several of our programmes are funded by the Government of Yukon and carry reporting obligations. The application form tells you what is being collected before you fill it in.
Ordinary web server records
Like any website, ours runs on a server that keeps access logs — the address a request came from, the page requested, the time, and the browser used. These are kept for security and troubleshooting, and we do not use them to build a picture of individual visitors.
What this site does not do
It is worth being specific, because a lot of privacy policies describe things their website does not actually do. This site has no visitor accounts, no comments and no login for the public. It uses no analytics and no advertising cookies. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing.
Who else handles your information
Two services other than our own website are involved when you use particular parts of the site.
- Mailchimp runs our newsletter. When you sign up, your name and email address go to Mailchimp, which is operated by Intuit and stores data in the United States.
- Whereabouts supplies the events and operators listings on some pages. It loads from its own servers, so it can see that a browser requested those listings.
- Our web host stores the site and its database, including anything you send us through a form.
Links to other organisations — a member’s website, a government page, our social media accounts — take you to sites we do not control, with their own privacy practices. This policy stops at the edge of our website.
How long we keep it
Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Correspondence is kept while it is useful for answering you and understanding the industry issues raised with us. Programme applications are kept for as long as the programme’s own reporting and audit requirements demand, which is set by the funder rather than by us.
What you can ask us to do
Under Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, and withdraw your consent to our using it. Some information we may have to keep to meet a legal or funding obligation, and if that applies we will tell you which and why.
Write to info@tiayukon.com and we will respond. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled it, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Changes to this policy
If what we do with personal information changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top will tell you when. If a change is significant, we will say so in the newsletter rather than relying on you to check.
