Cookies

This site sets no cookies of its own when you read it.

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep, so that something can be remembered between one page and the next — that you are signed in, for example, or what you put in a basket. They are also the usual way visitors are tracked from site to site.

What this site sets

Nothing. Browsing this website does not place any cookie from us on your device. There is no visitor account to stay signed in to, nothing to remember between pages, no analytics and no advertising, so there is nothing for a cookie to do.

The exception is our own staff: signing in to manage the site sets the cookies WordPress needs to keep an editor signed in. Those never reach a visitor.

What other services might set

Two parts of the site are supplied by other companies, and they follow their own rules rather than ours.

  • Mailchimp, when you use a newsletter sign-up form. Mailchimp may set a cookie as part of handling the sign-up.
  • Whereabouts, on pages showing events or operator listings. The listings load from its servers, and it may set a cookie in doing so.

Following a link to another website — a member, a government page, one of our social accounts — takes you somewhere with its own cookies, which we have no part in.

Because there is nothing to ask you about. Consent banners exist for tracking and advertising cookies, and this site sets neither. If that ever changes, this page will change first and we will ask properly rather than assume.

Controlling cookies yourself

Every browser lets you see the cookies you have, delete them, and block new ones — usually under privacy or site settings. Blocking cookies will not affect reading this site, though it may stop a newsletter sign-up or an events listing from working properly, since those are handled by the services above.
